Chapter 360: Contract Established
Chapter 360: Contract Established
"We do not have enough resources to support you, so as long as you can simplify the process and lower the cost on our end, we won't disrupt your work." She said at the end.
"So, you want me to shoulder the cost of the creation and destruction of the timeline in case of failures, but that would increase the payment for Arthur." Adam's eyes narrowed, that was one thing he wanted to keep on the lower end.
"That is for her to see, changing the past, present, and future to your liking comes at a heavy cost." The woman didn't even bat an eyelid.
"…I suppose." Adam didn't want to go into the specifics of this heavy cost, so he ended the discussion. "Very well then, I take it that you are giving me free rein as long as I don't disrupt the balance."
"You may." She gave a curt nod before reaching into the pocket of her red jacket, her small and pale hand presented a paper to Adam. "Use these coordinates to enter the world and start your ritual, the place Arthur Pendragon was taken from is under special isolation."
"Will do." Adam took the paper and memorized the fifth-dimensional coordinates, the view of a rather ordinary city came into view.
"Then until next time." He turned around and left for his shop, once more ignoring the multiple eyes that had been trying to pry into the meeting he had.
'I hope she deals with those peepers.' Adam didn't want any more trouble on his plate at this point.
Upon his arrival at the shop, he saw Arthur having some tea, she still hadn't touched a single cookie or pastry on the table. Her nervousness was palpable.
"So…" She tried to ask as soon he came into her view.
"I got the permission for it, but there is something I want to run by you as this is going to be the biggest contract I have made scale-wise." Adam cleared his throat and let out his idea. "Ideally it would be better for you to achieve your goal in one go, wouldn't it?"
"Yes, the faster I can achieve it the better."
"I see, then the easiest way will be to send you back into the body of your younger self before you became the king and let your choices create a new timeline that will be separate from the original." Adam placed the first option on the table.
"Then, that world will still exist." Arthur placed the cup on the table, her eyes sharp. The entire point of her coming here was to change that very timeline.
"I understand, that's where the second option comes in." Adam continued, "We change the original timeline, but that puts it in danger of being attacked by the balancers."
He had felt them trying to invade into the meeting space too, most likely to stop him from talking about Arthur's contract but they were kept at bay. The balancers were a force that kept the timeline in check so that a paradox wasn't created. Each universe had its own Balancers, and he knew they weren't ecstatic in this case.
In Arthur's case, her wish would most likely create a big change in history, one that would affect timelines beyond hers. After all, her true wish wasn't simply to choose a new king.
"Then…" Arthur looked at the table, a wry smile on her lips.
"I didn't say it isn't possible" He said.
Arthur looked up, her eyes wide as she took in his serious face. He still seemed to be contemplating the situation in his head, but she could see the same certainty in his eyes as before.
"It will take more effort, and in turn more compensation even if I do not want it to be that way." Adam looked at her, his brown eyes matching her green eyes. "More than anything, it'll depend on your trust in me."
"…I see. Then, please proceed with it as you see fit." Arthur nodded after a brief silence.
"I'll see to it till the end." Adam nodded and prepared the contract. "Let's accomplish this on the first try."
Arthur looked over the contract, and the content made her even more certain.
'He is trustworthy.' That feeling in her chest rose again, an instinct honed from years of experience. She knew he meant well, and he had shown it in the contract.
The contract didn't have anything concrete, from what he explained it was a simple contract that would end when he completed her wish. Her wish wasn't specified and neither was the payment. This was the first time Adam had made this type of contract.
'It will calculate the payment based on the work I do, usually, I can just put in the wish and let it calculate for me ahead of it. But in case the work I do becomes more than the payment, it creates a penalty for the employer for giving me more work than they paid for. It is a way to prevent cheating clients that lie about the commission.' Usually, doing this for every contract would be better, but Adam didn't do it to cut the women some slack and cover the extra work he had to do sometimes.
But Arthur's case was big, the system would be triggered before he could try and cover stuff up. So, he opted for this contract and gave her a worry-free end. Yes, she would end up paying more than if he had done it the usual way, but in case the system was triggered she'd have to pay more than three times because of the assumptions, which was less than whatever the current contract will draw up.
After they signed the contract and saw it come into action, Adam and Arthur stood up from the sofas. They were ready to leave for her world, but he had something to say to Grayfia.
"You'll have to follow me this time, Grayfia." He said, making the cold-faced maid happy in her heart.
"As you wish, Master." She followed him through the door, everything packed in the storage bracelet given to her by Adam.
She blinked once and the darkness that surrounded them lasted for a moment, in the next instant they stood by a road in a city. The night lights flashed as cars moved by in an ordering manner, the people leaving restaurants, and the kids returning from their part-time jobs walked by the three individuals.
One silver-haired red-eyed maid, a white-haired male with a robust physique, and the green-eyed blonde knight in full armor. Even if alone, they would attract plenty of eyes yet no one noticed them here. The reason was simple, Magic.
"Fuyuki city?" Arthur seemed to have recognized the place, especially so when the TV in the nearby store reported a massive gas leak that destroyed 134 buildings and claimed 500 lives on top of that.
This was the stage for the last Holy Grail war Arthur had fought in, the one war where she had almost won the Grail.
Adam noticed the change in her demeanor, there was a sense of helplessness and resignation, but also a hunger for an answer. One she wouldn't get right now.
