Chapter 151 The Three Swordsmen Reunite
Chapter 151 The Three Swordsmen Reunite
During physical education class, a row of people sat under the shade of a tree.
Xiao Yunqing draped her school uniform jacket over her knees and twirled a bottle of water in her hand.
Zhou Shan sat next to her, her glasses perched on her nose, holding a bag of cookies in her hand. She took a bite, making a crunching sound.
There were only a few first-year high school students playing ball on the playground.
The dribbling was unsteady, the shot went astray, the ball bounced off the rim and rolled out of bounds.
There were three people sitting in the audience.
Song Huan leaned back in her chair, legs stretched out, hands in her pockets, squinting in the sun.
Zhao Qihang sat to his right, his mouth opening and closing, seemingly saying something.
Chen Xu sat to his left, arms crossed, nodding occasionally.
Zhou Shan chewed on a cookie and glanced over there.
"Yunqing, why doesn't Song Huan play basketball anymore?"
Xiao Yunqing was stunned for a moment.
She looked up and gazed at the field.
People were running on the track, people were playing football on the lawn, and a few high school freshmen were retrieving balls under the basketball hoop.
But Song Huan wasn't there.
She looked into the audience; he was sitting there, relaxed as if he were on vacation.
Zhou Shan took another bite of the biscuit and chewed it twice.
"I've heard that some people are trapped by regrets their whole lives."
She pushed up her glasses. "Look how much he used to love playing basketball, but now he won't even touch it. He definitely hasn't gotten over that hurdle in his heart yet."
She turned to look at Xiao Yunqing, "You have to help him."
Xiao Yunqing remained silent.
She pursed her lips and rubbed her finger on the water bottle.
In the audience, Zhao Qihang was speaking enthusiastically.
"Look at that short guy, he dribbles so high, I can steal the ball from him every time. And that fat guy, he can't even run, and he wants to play basketball? Let me tell you, if I were on the court..."
Song Huan was lazily listening to Zhao Qihang bragging when Chen Xu suddenly patted him on the shoulder.
"Xiao Yunqing is calling you."
Song Huan raised her head and looked towards the shade of the trees.
Xiao Yunqing was waving at him, her hand not raised high, but her movements were quick, as if afraid he wouldn't see her.
Song Huan stood up, patted his pants, and walked over there.
Zhao Qihang watched him walk away, then leaned back in his chair, arms crossed.
"Oh my, look how fast they run! They used to say they were cousins."
He turned to look at Chen Xu, "Do you believe me?"
Chen Xu shook his head.
"I don't believe it either."
The two sat in the stands, watching Song Huan run down the steps, across the track, and into the shade of the trees.
The sunlight shone on him, casting a long shadow behind him.
Song Huan ran up to Xiao Yunqing and took a breath.
She glanced at Zhou Shan, who was grinning beside her, then looked back at Xiao Yunqing. "What's up?"
Xiao Yunqing looked up at him.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves, falling on her face in patches of light and shadow.
"Why don't you play basketball anymore?"
Song Huan was stunned for a moment.
He glanced at the sun overhead; it was late February, but it was already as hot as summer.
"It's so hot, I'm covered in sweat after playing."
Xiao Yunqing looked into his eyes.
He dodged for a moment, then looked back.
"Then why didn't you mind sweating before?"
Song Huan touched her nose and remained silent.
The wind blew from the playground, blowing her stray hairs onto her face, but she didn't brush them away.
"But I want to see you fight."
The sound wasn't loud, and half of it was carried away by the wind. She didn't look down; she looked at him.
Her face slowly turned red, starting from her neck, down to her chin, her cheeks, and the tips of her ears.
But his eyes didn't look away.
Song Huan looked at her and a smile spread across her face.
He was smiling broadly, showing his teeth.
"You should have said that earlier."
He turned and ran, up the steps, towards the stands, shouting as he ran.
"Chen Xu! Zhao Qihang! Let's play ball!"
Zhao Qihang jumped up from his chair. "Didn't you say you wouldn't fight?"
"Enough talk, get down here!"
Chen Xu had already stood up, stretched his shoulders, and his joints cracked.
The three people ran down the steps, across the track, and into the stadium.
Several first-year high school students were shooting hoops when they saw three older students running over, and they froze, holding the ball.
Zhao Qihang walked over, took the ball from them, and dribbled it. "Can we add another set?"
The group exchanged glances and nodded.
Zhou Shan sat under the shade of a tree, stuffed the last cookie into her mouth, and patted the crumbs off her hands.
"See, they've gone, haven't they?"
Xiao Yunqing remained silent.
She looked at the person on the court. He was bending over to tie his shoelaces. After tying them, he stood up, clapped his hands, took the pass from Zhao Qihang, dribbled twice, and jumped up to shoot.
The ball arced through the air and swished into the net.
The net was swung around with a whoosh.
Zhou Shan turned to look at her. "Are you blushing?"
"No." Xiao Yunqing turned her gaze back to the water bottle in her hand.
Water droplets clumped together on the bottle and trickled down its sides.
"You're blushing."
"I said no." She unscrewed the water bottle and took a sip.
The water was cold, but my face was burning hot.
On the field, the game has already begun.
The first-year high school students were not short, but their playing style was chaotic. They would drive to the basket as soon as they got the ball, and if they couldn't make the drive, they would shoot, and if they couldn't make the shot, they would steal it.
Zhao Qihang dribbled the ball at the top of the arc and called out "Song Huan".
Song Huan ran out from the baseline, used Chen Xu's screen to shake off the defender, and received the ball.
The defender rushed in, but instead of shooting, he tossed the ball towards the basket.
Chen Xu caught it, turned around, and jumped.
The ball slammed into the basket, and the backboard wobbled.
A few first-year high school students stood under the basket, watching the hoop still swaying, and said nothing.
In the next round, Zhao Qihang passed the ball to Song Huan.
Song Huan received the ball outside the three-point line, dribbled once, stopped abruptly, and jumped.
The defender rushed in, but it was too late.
The ball was flicked from the fingertips, arcing very high, pausing briefly at its highest point, and then falling.
Hollow-core netting.
Zhao Qihang ran over and gave him a high five, his voice crisp and clear, "The Three Musketeers are back!"
Song Huan smiled and ran back to defend.
Xiao Yunqing sat under the shade of a tree, watching him run on the field.
He ran very fast, with long strides, but landed very lightly.
Once the ball was in his hands, it seemed glued to him; his dribbling, passing, and shooting were all smooth.
She remembered him saying before, "It's so hot, I'm all sweaty after playing."
He's sweating now; the collar of his T-shirt is soaked, and his forehead is glistening.
But he was running happily, a smile always on his face.
Zhou Shan said something beside her, but she didn't hear it.
She watched as the man sank another three-pointer; the ball bounced off the rim and rolled in.
Song Huan turned and ran back, glancing in this direction as she passed the shaded area.
She didn't have time to hide and he saw her.
He smiled and ran back.
Zhou Shan pushed up her glasses. "Can you two stop being so lovey-dovey?"
Xiao Yunqing looked away, unscrewed the water bottle, took a sip, and said nothing.
But the corners of his mouth were turned up, and he couldn't suppress them no matter what he did.
On the court, several first-year high school students were beaten so badly they lost their temper.
Zhao Qihang dribbled the ball at the top of the arc, strolling leisurely, and even took the time to tidy his bangs.
Chen Xu received the ball under the basket, and no one dared to defend him. He gently put the ball in, as if he were practicing.
Song Huan received the ball outside the three-point line. The defender had already taken two steps back and hadn't even extended his hand.
He smiled and passed the ball to Zhao Qihang.
Zhao Qihang caught the ball and shot, the ball going in off the backboard.
Nobody remembers the score anymore.
The bell rang, signaling the end of get out of class.
Song Huan walked off the field, her school uniform soaked through and clinging to her body.
Sweat streamed down his forehead, and he wiped it with his sleeve, but it didn't dry completely.
Walking under the shade of a tree, Xiao Yunqing stood up and handed him the water bottle.
He took it, unscrewed the cap, tilted his head back, and took a big gulp.
Water spilled from the corner of his mouth and dripped down his chin onto the ground.
"You missed that three-pointer," she said.
He put down the water bottle, looked at her, and said, "Just get in."
"It was smashed into the basket."
"That means it's in."
She didn't say anything, took the water bottle back from his hand, and screwed the cap on.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves, falling brightly on her face.
The wind blew by, carrying the smells of sweat and grass.
"Will you play again next time?" she asked.
He thought for a moment, "I'll fight if you come to watch, I'll fight if you want to watch, I'll fight if you want me to fight."
Her face turned red again.
She turned around and swung her ponytail.
"Who wants to come see you?"
She walked forward, her steps quick.
After taking a few steps, he slowed down, as if he was deliberately waiting for someone.
Song Huan followed behind, hands in his pockets, strolling slowly.
Zhou Shan sat under the shade of a tree, watching the two figures from behind, and shook her head.
"Director Wang Feng of the senior year, you said there were no couples at No. 1 High School, what happened?"
"Open your eyes and look around! This whole school is practically overflowing with PDA!"
She took off her glasses, wiped them, and put them back on.
He stood up, dusted off his pants, and followed.
