Chapter 87 The Golden Compass
Chapter 87 The Golden Compass
The Bermuda Triangle in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
The dense fog never dissipates, and any ships or planes that attempt to approach mysteriously lose contact; this is a forbidden zone that modern technology cannot reach.
Today, however, a massive fleet has torn open the curtain on this sea of death.
Leading the group was the Europa League's flagship, the "Winged Victory." At the bow, Arthur Pendragon, clad in silver-white knight's armor, stood with his short, golden hair billowing in the sea breeze, his eyes sharper than a hawk's.
In his hand, the golden compass, silent for a century, was emitting a soft light, its pointer steadily pointing into the depths of the thick fog.
"My lord, the energy detector shows a strong spatial distortion ahead. Can our ship... get any closer?" A knight's adjutant asked with a worried expression.
"The compass is pointing the way." Arthur's voice was calm, yet carried an undeniable authority. "Full fleet, maintain formation and slow down."
The moment the bows of the fleet touched the edge of the dense fog, a strange sight occurred.
The dense fog, capable of swallowing up all signals, seemed to have met its nemesis, obediently parting to both sides, giving them a passageway only wide enough for the fleet to pass through.
As they passed through the fog, a world that defied common sense unfolded before them.
The seawater turned like the purest sapphire, so clear that you could see the seabed thousands of meters below. A magnificent ancient city, beyond description, lay quietly on the seabed, radiating a soft light that illuminated the entire area as bright as day.
The pristine white temple, the towering columns, the arched bridge spanning the sky... everything is perfectly preserved, as if time itself has lost its meaning here.
"Atlantis..."
"We really found it!"
An uncontrollable gasp and exclamation erupted from the deck. Fanaticism and excitement were written on the faces of every knight.
This is the legendary lost city, a treasure trove capable of changing the world's格局 (geju, a term referring to the overall situation or structure)!
The fleet slowly anchored in the open sea above the ancient city.
"First and Third Knights, come with me. The rest of you stay here and seal off this area," Arthur ordered.
Dozens of figures leaped off the deck, their knight armor glowing with waterproof runes, and plunged into the water like arrows, rapidly heading towards the city entrance below.
At the city's entrance, a massive archway stands. Before it, two squads of siren guards, each wielding a trident and possessing a human torso and a fish tail, patrol.
Their bodies were covered with bluish scales, their muscles were bulging, and they exuded a powerful A-grade aura.
"Prepare for battle!" Arthur gestured.
The knights quickly formed a standard battle formation. Two heavily armored knights stood at the forefront, their tower shields glowing with holy light, while the others spread out to the flanks and rear.
The siren guards spotted the intruders, let out a sharp screech, and charged forward wielding their tridents.
"For glory!"
Arthur drew his knight's sword from his waist, and golden flames ignited on the blade.
They all use equipment that matches their identity and codename, which has become a tradition in their squad.
The battle erupted instantly.
The A-rank Siren Guardian is an elite monster that requires a highly skilled squad to defeat.
However, they proved utterly vulnerable against the well-equipped and perfectly coordinated Knights of the Round Table.
The heavy knight's holy shield easily blocked the trident's thrust, while the swordsman on the flank circled behind the siren like a ghost, his enchanted longsword easily piercing through the siren's scales.
The magicians behind them chanted spells, and beams of frost precisely struck the sirens' joints, slowing their movements.
The battle ended in less than five minutes.
More than a dozen A-level sea monster guards were all killed.
"My God, loot...looted some really good equipment!" A young knight pointed at the corpse of a siren, his voice trembling.
Beside the corpse, a pair of leggings emitting a blue light floated silently in the water.
"Pieces from the 【Wrath of the Sea God】 set!" a veteran knight exclaimed in shock. "That's an A-grade set! We only cleared out the mobs at the entrance!"
The tremendous success sent all the knights into a frenzy of joy.
Their eyes were filled with greed as they looked at the city. If even the guards here could drop A-grade armor pieces, what kind of amazing treasures must be hidden deep within the city?
"Clean up the battlefield and move on." Arthur's expression remained calm, but the burning passion in his eyes betrayed his inner excitement.
Passing through the archway, the Knights officially entered Atlantis.
The city was more magnificent than I had imagined, with streets wide enough for a dragon to pass through. Although deserted, its former glory could still be glimpsed from the well-preserved buildings and exquisite sculptures.
The knights cautiously ventured deeper into the main road. Along the way, they encountered several more patrols of sirens, all of which were easily dealt with, yielding considerable spoils. In less than an hour, they had collected two complete sets of the A-grade [Wrath of the Sea God] armor set.
"We're rich! We've really struck it rich this time!"
"Hahaha, once we bring this treasure back, will those guys from the White Eagle Empire still dare to be arrogant in front of us?"
The knights discussed excitedly, their previous caution now overshadowed by their enormous gains.
Just then, Arthur stopped.
He stood in front of a dilapidated temple, looking up at its outer walls.
On the wall, a huge mural occupied everyone's view.
The mural depicts an ancient war.
There are two main characters in the picture.
One of them was the goddess with snake-like hair and a human body, radiating overwhelming divine power, whom they had just seen in the images within the temple's secret chamber. Her form was ferocious and terrifying, and behind her was an endless army of sea monsters.
Confronting her was a mysterious figure whose face was obscured.
The man was dressed in a simple cloth robe, and his figure appeared incredibly small in the presence of the deity. Yet, in his hands, he held a spiral-shaped disc that emitted an eerie light.
The mural's composition is extremely impactful. The wrath of the deity and the tranquility of the mysterious figure form a stark contrast. It's as if the fate of the entire world rests on that small disc.
"This is..." Arthur frowned deeply.
He felt an inexplicable unease emanating from that spiraling disc. Its shape was unlike any other artifact he knew, yet it gave him a strange sense of familiarity.
"My lord, look here!" a knight pointed to the corner of the mural.
In the corner, a line of small characters is engraved in an ancient maritime language.
A scholar well-versed in ancient languages stepped forward, deciphered the text for a long time, and then read it aloud in an uncertain tone:
"Void... nothingness... devouring... gods..."
These few fragmented words instantly cooled the atmosphere at the scene.
Devouring gods?
Are you kidding me!
How could a mortal possibly devour a god?
Arthur's gaze was fixed on the mysterious figure holding the disc, his unease growing stronger. He had a feeling that the mural was foreshadowing something.
However, before he could ponder this further, an even brighter light suddenly emanated from the depths of the temple, accompanied by a powerful energy fluctuation.
"It's the treasure vault! The temple's treasure vault has been activated!"
The knights' attention was instantly drawn to the strange mural, and they no longer cared about studying it. With treasure right before their eyes, who had the mind to concern themselves with those vague ancient legends?
"Let's go! Let's take a look!"
Fanaticism once again took hold on the high ground, and the knights rushed headlong into the depths of the temple.
Arthur took one last look at the disc on the mural, forcibly suppressing his unease.
Compared to unknown risks, readily available benefits are clearly more tempting.
Perhaps it was just an exaggerated depiction by the ancients. He comforted himself with this thought.
