Chapter 791: Evanthe Is Returning
Chapter 791: Evanthe Is Returning
In the night, when Theodora was sitting alone in the lounge, Drayce approached her, as he knew she must have things to talk about.
Just as he sat, he asked, "What are you thinking, Grandma?"
Her eyes silently turned to look at him. "I was just thinking everything is back in its place and everyone’s happy, so I should be at peace as well."
Drayce stared at her for a moment before he offered her a small nod and said, "But the worry about your own son still stays."
Theodora didn’t hide it now. "He is my son, despite how old he is."
There was silence between them for a while before Theodora asked, "Did you meet your mother?"
"I did."
"How is she?"
"Going with whatever life offers her."
"Then she is still the same," Theodora chuckled. "Back then, I made her stay, and she accepted whatever I offered her. But while moving ahead, she forgot me as well. I wish I could see her once before I close my eyes."
"She might return," Drayce said, only to see the old lady’s calm yet regretful gaze turn into a surprised one.
"Will she?"
Drayce hummed. "She said it before we left that place."
"I will wait for her then," Theodora said, letting out a shaky sigh and closing her tired eyes.
Drayce put his hand over Theodora’s hand, feeling her life force as she looked frail. With age, nothing could be avoided. He was relieved to feel her life force was stable.
"I am not dying yet, Dray," he heard her say. "Not until I see my witch of a daughter-in-law who left me without saying goodbye."
Drayce smiled lightly to hear her. "I know."
She didn’t open her eyes and said, "I am wondering now that she is coming back, should I be her usual mother-in-law who spoiled her rotten, or should I be that typical one who curses her daughter-in-law at every chance she gets?"
"Whatever you feel like. Mother will cherish you in every way."
"Then I should be the latter one. Cursing her might make me feel better. And I heard evil mother-in-laws are meant to live longer to create hell for their daughters-in-law. And given my daughter-in-law is a witch, I might earn more evil deeds to live longer."
Drayce chuckled lightly. "Sure, Grandma."
----
The next day, Drayce and Seren returned to the palace after having a morning meal with Theodora. They made an appearance in the royal court in front of the ministers.
Everyone was happy to see their King and Queen back and welcomed them. Seren had stopped wearing the veil, so now everyone could see how beautiful their queen was. She was no witch.
Seren was allowed to leave as Drayce remained to address the important royal court matters. Seren, anyway, had no interest in it and left in delight.
Tyra, Eva, Marie, and the other servants were over the moon to have their queen back, finally, after a year of long wait.
As she left the royal court in her carriage, she said, "I want to visit the lake."
As per her wish, the carriage was diverted to the lake. She stood in the gazebo and enjoyed the peaceful view.
"Lady Tyra," Seren addressed the woman standing a few steps behind her.
"I didn’t know I would ever miss this place so much. It feels like an eternity since I was gone," she said.
"Because everyone misses their home, Your Majesty," the old lady said. "Wherever we go in the world, our home is the only heaven we find in the end."
"So true," Seren replied. "I can’t help but remember when I arrived here as a bride. At that time, nothing felt so special like I am feeling it now. It seems like once we go away, only then we understand to cherish what we have."
"You are right, Your Majesty."
"Your Majesty," Marie said to her, "I have brewed your favorite tea."
"Thank you, Marie," Seren turned and sat in the chair around the tea table. "Lady Tyra, please accompany me."
Lady Tyra took the chair opposite her and accompanied her over tea.
"It’s the same as the year before," Seren relished the aroma and taste of the tea and looked at Marie. "Your skills remain the same."
"I am glad you liked it, Your Majesty."
Seren was lost in her thoughts for a while and said, "Lady Tyra."
"Yes, Your Majesty?"
"I spent only a year in this place, and I missed everything. I wonder how Mother managed to stay away after spending years calling this place her home."
"The previous queen cherished this place. I am sure she misses it even today," Lady Tyra added.
"Once she returns, I hope she can relieve all the longing she must have felt."
It surprised Lady Tyra, and she asked, her eyes holding the depth of hope she had, "Your Majesty, Her Eminence is returning?"
"She said so," Seren answered, having a sip of tea. "Should be anytime soon."
Lady Tyra gasped in delight and suddenly felt baffled. "Then... I should make arrangements for her stay. We can’t lack..."
"Calm down, Lady Tyra," Seren’s words were calm. "You do know Mother does not mind such trifling things."
Lady Tyra nodded. "But she will need a place to stay."
"I am sure the Obsidian Palace has enough space to accommodate the wife of its owner," Seren said, a light smile playing on her lips.
"Your Majesty, you mean, will she stay with His Excellency?" Tyra asked.
"I am sure she will prefer the same," Seren added, "and her husband as well."
"If you say so... that should be right, Your Majesty," Lady Tyra still felt unsure about it.
"They have been away for almost two decades. Why keep them away further?" Seren said.
"I am not sure how His Excellency will react to seeing her. What if he wouldn’t forgive her soon and ask her to leave?" Lady Tyra expressed.
"Then, as the Queen of this entire Kingdom, I will tell His Excellency I have no other place to accommodate his wife," Seren said, mischief in her eyes.
Though hesitant, Lady Tyra couldn’t help but smile, and so did Eva and Marie.
"We are back just now, and my Queen is already in a mood to exert her rights as Queen?" they heard a voice.
Lady Tyra stood up and stepped away as they all bowed to Drayce.
Seren remained seated while she poured another cup of tea for herself. "Can’t I exert my rights?"
Drayce sat in the chair. "I am more than delighted to see you act this way."
"Well, I am doing it for your parents as well," she poured a cup of tea for him too and passed it to him. "I can’t stand to see them away from each other."
"Do as you feel right," Drayce said.
"If your father gets angry, then I trust you to protect me."
"Always."
