Chapter 362: Grand Priest
Chapter 362: Grand Priest
The number of people poisoned by the Green Corpse Cold surged from 100,000 to 500,000.
Li Wei was stunned when he heard the news.
Lancelot, however, remained perfectly calm.
Soon after, the City Lord’s Mansion and the Divine Hall of Light announced publicly that there had been an error in the initial count.
They claimed there had always been that many infected people.
It was just that their symptoms had been too mild.
That was why they hadn’t been included in the tally.
By afternoon, the incubation period for the Green Corpse Cold had passed, and the potent poison fully erupted.
Only then did the numbers skyrocket.
They told the residents of Storm City not to panic, that the Divine Hall of Light would soon provide a solution.
The residents of Storm City suddenly noticed that not a single person under the Divine Hall of Light’s jurisdiction had been poisoned.
In an instant, countless people flooded into the districts controlled by the Divine Hall of Light, seeking refuge and safety.
At dusk, Li Wei stood on a rooftop, looking down at the streets teeming with people.
Countless people from other parts of Storm City had poured into this area.
They would rather abandon their comfortable homes to sleep on the streets here.
It was January, nearly February.
The nights were bitterly cold.
The morning dew would even turn to frost.
Yet these people were still willing to endure the cold, huddled together on the streets outside the Divine Hall of Light.
Li Wei suddenly felt that the Light Divine Sect was truly up to no good.
They were unscrupulous in their methods to spread their faith and recruit followers.
Li Wei suspected that the ones spreading the news about no one under the Divine Hall of Light’s protection being poisoned were people from the Divine Hall itself.
’Whether an empire rises or falls, it is the people who suffer.’
Li Wei lamented inwardly.
If not for his Extraordinary Power, he would be just another face in the crowd below.
Li Wei looked up, as if he could see the gods in the heavens looking down upon the world.
Even with Extraordinary Power, he was still just one of the masses.
To say nothing of the distant, unreachable Divine Spirits.
Right now, Li Wei was still at the mercy of the Legendary Witch Lich.
He wanted to break free from the Puppet Strings controlling him.
’Tomorrow, the Goddess’s Tears will arrive in Storm City,’ Li Wei thought.
Tomorrow was destined to be anything but peaceful.
Tonight was the final calm before the storm.
For the common people, this "storm" had already been raging for long enough.
But Li Wei’s "storm" had yet to begin.
Extraordinary Beings and ordinary people already lived in two different worlds.
The Extraordinary Beings of Storm City were about to face a superstorm that would sweep everyone up in its fury.
No one would escape.
Savinia stood on a rooftop, gazing down at Storm City below her.
A sneer played on her lips.
"Humans... what a despicable species. They won’t even spare their own kind to achieve their goals."
Minotaur Arno stood beside her, silent.
Savinia had only spread the Green Corpse Cold Poison in a small area of Storm City.
Originally, she had estimated it would take three days to infect about 100,000 people.
It would have been enough to force the Divine Hall of Light to request the use of the Goddess’s Tears from the Saint Hall of Light.
The Legendary Witch Lich knew the minds of those in the Light Divine Sect all too well.
They couldn’t care less whether the world was stable or if the people lived in peace and prosperity.
They only needed faith.
If peace could bring them faith, they would create peace.
If war could bring them faith, they would stir up war.
Natural disasters, man-made calamities—they were all just tools for the Light Divine Sect to harvest the world’s faith.
From the very beginning, the Light Divine Sect had faith in the Light God, not in the light itself.
The Divine Spirit was what mattered most.
Justice was not.
A figure materialized before the two of them.
Savinia and Arno quickly bowed their heads in greeting.
"Master."
"The Goddess’s Tears will be here soon. Tell Mephit to prepare to intercept it."
"As you command."
The Legendary Witch Lich was completely shrouded in a black robe.
He stood in the darkness, gazing at the distant Divine Hall of Light, which remained resplendent even in the dead of night.
Late that night, Li Wei lay in bed, feigning sleep.
He appeared to be sleeping, but in his mind, he was still analyzing Magic.
Inside the Divine Hall of Light, Li Wei did not rashly enter the Dream World.
He had been on his best behavior these past few days.
Suddenly, there was a commotion from the guards outside his door.
Li Wei slowly opened his eyes, his Spiritual Perception spreading out like flowing water.
Suppressed by the Divine Hall of Light, the range of his Spiritual Perception was reduced to fifty meters.
However, Li Wei could still perceive the movements outside.
He sensed a great number of footsteps.
The guards, Knights, and sentinels of the Divine Hall of Light were converging on a certain location.
A thought stirred in Li Wei’s mind; he guessed the Goddess’s Tears might have arrived.
’Someone just came and ordered the guards at my door to keep a close watch on me. It seems Lancelot is still wary. He apparently doesn’t want me to know that the Goddess’s Tears has arrived.’
’Has he grown suspicious?’ Li Wei wondered.
He was effectively under house arrest now.
Any rash moves could arouse further suspicion from Lancelot.
Li Wei quietly began Casting, the fluctuation of his Mana imperceptible.
Illusion Technique.
A small insect flew from Li Wei’s palm, slipped through a crack in the window, and followed a passing Knight along the outer wall.
No one would notice a tiny insect in the dark of night.
The insect’s perspective appeared in Li Wei’s mind.
He carefully controlled the insect, concealing its magical aura as it followed the Bright Knight.
Soon, Li Wei saw a large number of Bright Knights gathering outside the Divine Hall.
The small insect floated in mid-air.
Through the insect’s eyes, Li Wei watched the tightly shut main hall of the Divine Hall of Light.
He did not approach rashly.
Suddenly, a white light flared from the main hall of the Divine Hall of Light.
A moment later, the light vanished, and the great doors of the main hall swung open.
Three Grand Priests from the Holy Hall walked out.
They had come escorting the Goddess’s Tears.
Seeing Lancelot waiting at the entrance, one Grand Priest smiled and said, "Grand Archbishop Lancelot, there’s no need for such a grand display, is there?"
"Who would dare attack the Divine Hall of Light within Storm City?"
Lancelot said, "It’s better to be cautious."
"Have you brought the Goddess’s Tears?" Lancelot asked.
The Grand Priest nodded. "We have."
"I heard there was an outbreak of the Green Corpse Cold Poison in Storm City. If the numbers aren’t too high, you could distribute Holy Water infused with the Goddess’s Tears to cure the sick," the Grand Priest suggested.
Lancelot replied, "There are already five hundred thousand people poisoned."
The Grand Priest’s face showed his surprise.
’With that many people,’ he thought, ’we’ll have to prepare a miracle.’
"Preparing a miracle takes time. I don’t know if the sick can wait that long."
Lancelot said, "Rest assured, I’ve already prepared everything needed for the Miracle Ceremony. All we’re waiting for now is the Goddess’s Tears."
Hearing this, the Grand Priest breathed a sigh of relief. "That’s good."
"In that case, let’s set the time for the miracle to be displayed for noon tomorrow."
Lancelot nodded. "No problem."
"Tonight, the three of you should rest well."
The Divine Hall of Light prepared a palatial residence for the three and dispatched a large number of Bright Knights and guards to protect them.
The Grand Priests were powerful in their own right.
Coupled with the protection of numerous Bright Knights, the Goddess’s Tears was perfectly secure.
