Chapter 314 Ranged Mage?
Chapter 314 Ranged Mage?
Inside the medical bay of the Blood Angels' warship, the tense atmosphere was almost suffocating. Russell was quickly lifted onto the operating table; his body was covered in corrosive wounds and fractures, his power armor stained crimson with blood. Pharmacists swiftly began treatment, and almost all of the Blood Angels' high-ranking figures, including Dante, Captain Gabriel, and Mephisto from the think tank, were present, their eyes fixed on Russell on the operating table.
"Prepare for surgery!" Dante's voice held a rare hint of urgency. "We must save him, no matter what!"
The pharmacists sprang into action, the clanging of surgical instruments mingling with the hum of medical equipment. But when they began cleaning Russell's wound, everyone was stunned.
"This...this is impossible!" a pharmacist exclaimed in a low voice. "His wound is healing at a speed visible to the naked eye!"
Russell's body seemed to possess an incredible regenerative ability; corrosive wounds quickly scabbed over under the apothecaries' treatment, and broken bones automatically reset themselves. His golden psionic energy flowed within him, as if repairing every injury.
Dante frowned, a hint of shock in his eyes: "His regenerative abilities... are simply beyond the limits of mortals."
Company Commander Gabriel said in a low voice, "This might be related to his golden psionic energy. His power can not only fight against the Zerg, but also repair his own damage."
Mephisto, the think tank member, stood to the side, his arms crossed over his chest, his gaze deep: "Russell's power... may be more mysterious than we imagine. His existence may be the hope bestowed upon us by the Emperor."
Just as the pharmacists were astonished by Russell's regenerative abilities, Russell gradually regained consciousness. His eyes slowly opened, his gaze showing a hint of weariness, but still unwavering.
"Lord Dante..." Russell's voice was a little hoarse, "How are the Zerg...?"
Dante walked to Russell's side, his tone tinged with relief: "It's good that you're awake. The Zerg's attack has temporarily halted. We've consolidated our defenses and are redeploying our forces."
Russell nodded and tried to sit up, but the pharmacists held him down: "Don't move, your body is still recovering."
Russell gave a wry smile: "I feel much better. My power... seems to be helping me heal my wounds."
Dante's gaze held a complex emotion: "Russell, where does your power... come from?"
Russell was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "I don't know either. But I know this is the mission the Emperor has given me. I must use this power to fight against the threats of the Zerg and Chaos."
Just then, Cato Sicarius's voice came through the communicator: "Russell, are you alright? We just received news that the Zerg's mastermind is gathering more forces to launch a new offensive."
A resolute glint flashed in Russell's eyes: "I'm fine. We must act quickly, or the number of Zerg will only increase."
Dante nodded, his tone firm: "Russell, your body needs rest. We'll buy you some time."
Russell shook his head and stood up with difficulty: "No, Lord Dante. I cannot wait here. My power is key to the fight against the Zerg, and I must return to the battlefield."
Arya walked to Russell's side, her psionic shield re-activating: "Russell, I will be with you. Although your power is immense, you still need my psionic support."
Cato's voice came through the communicator: "Russell, don't push yourself. We still need your strength, but you also need to ensure your own safety."
Russell smiled slightly, a hint of gratitude in his eyes: "Don't worry, Cato. I won't put myself in danger again."
Dante looked at Russell and finally nodded: "Alright, Russell. We will provide you with support. But remember, your life is just as important."
Russell's gaze was fixed on the distant battlefield, his voice firm and powerful: For the Emperor!
…………
Russell stood on the high ground of the battlefield, surrounded by four massive Dreadnoughts, their heavy weaponry and thick armor forming an impenetrable defensive line. More than fifty Terminator Warriors circled around him, their power armor gleaming with the insignia of the Blood Angels, their weapons poised to repel any Zerg that attempted to approach. Further out, fifty veteran Ultramarines and Shield Guards sent by Cato Sicarius stood ready, their shields and power swords forming a second line of defense.
Russell looked at the tight security around him and couldn't help but smile wryly: "Lord Dante, Cato, do you think I'm fragile? I'm not that delicate."
Dante's voice came through the communicator, his tone carrying an undeniable firmness: "Russell, your power is key to our fight against the Zerg. We cannot allow you to risk your life on the front lines any longer. Your mission is to provide remote support, using your psionic lightning to strike the Zerg's core."
Cato's voice followed immediately: "Russell, stop complaining. Your safety is more important than anything else. These Shield Guard veterans are handpicked from among the Ultramarines; their mission is to ensure you are unharmed."
Russell shook his head helplessly, but a warm feeling welled up inside him. He knew that Dante and Cato were thinking of his safety, but he still felt somewhat uncomfortable with this feeling of being "overprotected."
“Okay, I understand.” Russell took a deep breath and looked at the distant sea of insects. He slowly raised his hands, golden psionic energy gathering in his palms, and arcs of electricity dancing at his fingertips.
"Boom!" A bolt of golden lightning shot out from his palm, striking directly into the swarm of insects. The violent explosion instantly turned dozens of giant blade insects to ashes, tearing a huge gap in the insectoid formation.
"Continue!" Russell murmured, his hands moving rapidly, golden psionic lightning raining down like a storm. Each strike precisely hit the densest areas of the Zerg, and their numbers were rapidly dwindling.
The Dreadnoughts' heavy weaponry began to unleash its power, with artillery fire and missiles exploding amidst the swarm, perfectly complementing Russell's psionic lightning. The Terminator warriors, meanwhile, surrounded Russell, mercilessly slaughtering any Zerg that attempted to approach.
The veteran Shieldbearers of Cato formed a solid defensive line on the perimeter, their shields blocking the Zerg's acid and bone spikes, while their power swords relentlessly reaped Zerg lives.
Arya stood beside Russell, a psionic shield constantly protecting the two of them. Her voice carried a hint of teasing: "Russell, it seems you've become the 'treasure' of the battlefield now. You don't even need to move; you just need to stand there and release psionic energy."
Russell gave a wry smile: "This feeling... is really a bit strange. I prefer to be on the front lines, personally killing the enemy."
Arya gently patted his shoulder: "Stop complaining. Your power is now key to fighting the Zerg. Dante and Cato's plan was right. We need you alive, not to play the hero."
Russell nodded and said, "I understand."
The number of Zerg was rapidly decreasing, and the Hive Will seemed to have realized Russell's threat, beginning to mobilize more forces to rush towards him. However, under the tight protection of four Dreadnoughts, fifty Terminator Warriors, and fifty Shield Veterans, Russell's safety was guaranteed to the greatest extent.
Boom! Another bolt of golden lightning struck the swarm of insects, tearing their formation apart once more. Russell's gaze was firm and powerful; he knew that victory in this battle was within reach.
