Chapter 355: The Giant Wall Whose Boundary Cannot Be Seen
Chapter 355: The Giant Wall Whose Boundary Cannot Be Seen
"Hah..."
’My mind feels so much clearer after that rest.’
Yang Chan awoke from his slumber. Although it was a light sleep, his Spirit felt greatly restored.
Just as he’d expected, there was no danger within the Green Brick Courtyard.
For the building to have survived this long meant that danger rarely came near—not even large Exotic Beasts. Besides, he had carefully scouted the area and confirmed it was safe before deciding to stay inside.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but Yang Chan knew he couldn’t afford to rush.
Now that he was all alone in Taiyin Heaven, his mindset was of the utmost importance.
He first ate some Spirit Medicine to sate his hunger, heating it over a fire. Although this damaged some of its Medicinal Properties, it made the taste much better.
The only unfortunate part was that he hadn’t found any pots or pans in the courtyard. Perhaps there had been some, but they had long since rotted away.
He could have fashioned a simple one if he’d wanted to, but he didn’t plan on staying here for long. Finding an exit was his priority; that was what Yang Chan wanted to do right now.
If he couldn’t get out, his Daily Potential Point Collection would surely drop again, and he didn’t have many Elixirs left.
Before entering Taiyin Heaven yesterday, he had used up a portion of his Spirit Medicine, and he hadn’t brought most of his remaining supply. This put him at a great disadvantage.
’Taiyin Heaven is full of opportunities. They should be left for those who actually need them.’
’I hope today goes more smoothly. I need to find a way out.’
Yang Chan looked at the unchanging sky. It was as gloomy as ever, with no distinction between day and night. This kind of environment was not good for him.
He took out the Incomplete Seal and used it to get his bearings again. He had tested it many times and confirmed that it always pointed in the same direction.
He could use this as a fixed bearing to navigate, which helped him roughly track his own location. As for the place it was pointing to, he wouldn’t even consider going there unless he was completely unable to find an exit.
When an opportunity falls from the sky, Yang Chan’s first instinct is to check if it’s a falling anvil, lest he get crushed. Of course, the even better choice is to not look at all and just run away. That way, there’s zero risk.
Someone who’d been starving for days might take that risk, but Yang Chan was like a man with a bag full of steamed buns—why would he need to pick up a potentially dangerous pie from the ground?
It wasn’t that the opportunities in Taiyin Heaven held no appeal for him; they just weren’t worth the risk.
Stepping out of the Green Brick Courtyard, Yang Chan paused and decided to leave a trail marker. Although the Incomplete Seal should prevent him from getting lost, it was good to have a backup. Of course, it would be even better if he never needed it.
After checking the direction on the Incomplete Seal, Yang Chan once again set off in the direction opposite to where it was pointing.
Along the way, Yang Chan discovered that the farther he traveled, the fewer Exotic Beasts he encountered.
He had run into a few yesterday, but today he hadn’t seen a single one.
The trees and Spirit Medicines grew much sparser as well, but Yang Chan was still able to gather some to replenish his food supply.
He pressed onward, until he saw a tall wall stretching across the path ahead. It was immense, extending so far that he couldn’t see its end in either direction.
’Have I reached the border?’
As far as Yang Chan could see, it was as if the entire space was walled in, giving him the sense that he was in an enclosed world.
At the same time, another thought surfaced: he had likely reached the edge. This meant there might be a gate—the very exit he had been searching for.
He advanced again until he stood right before the wall. Only by looking straight up could he truly appreciate its immense height. It was at least three hundred meters tall, and before it, Yang Chan’s figure seemed utterly insignificant.
Yang Chan wanted to climb it, but he couldn’t find any suitable handholds or footholds.
Although he practiced the Wind-Stepping Technique, a type of Light Body Technique, he was far from being able to achieve a sky-controlling flight. To ascend over three hundred meters, he would need several places to land and push off from.
But the face of the wall was unnaturally smooth, offering no purchase whatsoever.
Yang Chan tried punching the wall, but he couldn’t even leave a scratch. This wasn’t just because the material was incredibly hard; there was also a strange power that instantly erased any mark he made.
He then tried with his Dragon’s Tooth Short Sword. The unique Spiritual Power from the blade managed to leave a visible mark, but it didn’t last long.
Within a few breaths, the mark vanished, and the wall was smooth once more.
Under these circumstances, Yang Chan certainly wasn’t going to attempt climbing a three-hundred-meter wall. If he failed to find a new hold midway and fell, not even his powerful body could withstand the impact. He would be severely injured at best, and dead at worst—a fate Yang Chan was keen to avoid.
So, instead of attempting a direct climb, Yang Chan began to walk alongside the wall. If there was an exit, it had to be somewhere along its length.
And so, following it was Yang Chan’s chosen path.
In a Secret Realm, Yang Chan would always choose the path of least risk.
There was another point: the wall possessed a strange power. If that power extended into the air above it, or even just across the top, he might find himself unable to get over, or worse, face some destructive force. Choosing to climb would be suicide.
This thought had actually occurred to him because he hadn’t seen a single bird in the sky, which made him feel something was wrong.
There were land-based Exotic Beasts, but no avian ones. It was strange. However, if something in the sky restricted flight, that would explain it.
Of course, this was just Yang Chan’s speculation; he had no way to confirm it.
As he continued on his way, he noticed the area beside the wall was completely barren. The short trees and shrubs he had seen earlier were gone, replaced by empty ground. It was as if some strange force emanating from the wall choked the very life from the plants.
There wasn’t even any moss, just an unnerving smoothness.
On normal buildings, moss and weeds would eventually grow in the nooks and crannies, slowly covering the surface. But on this towering wall, there was nothing.
The farther he walked, the more Yang Chan felt how extraordinary this massive wall was.
He couldn’t imagine what kind of being could have constructed a wall of this caliber. Its height alone was enough to inspire despair, but the fact that it seemed to have no end made it all the more astounding.
Yang Chan observed as he walked, his gaze fixed on the wall, trying to see what secrets it hid. Unfortunately, it was too difficult to see through.
It was as if a layer of Mist shrouded the wall, making it impossible to see through. Or perhaps, one could say it seemed as though there was nothing hidden at all.
It seemed to only show a Reaction when acted upon. This left Yang Chan feeling helpless; because he couldn’t see what was hidden, he was deprived of a potential method of escape.
His pace never faltered, and every so often, he would glance down at the Incomplete Seal he carried.
