Chapter 251 The Fall of the Undying City
Chapter 251 The Fall of the Undying City
The lizardman army moved quickly, and by noon the 100,000-strong lizardman army had arrived in front of the Undying Fortress.
Upon seeing the Undying City, Glock didn't hesitate for a moment. He immediately raised his weapon, roared, and charged towards the human fortress.
Seeing this, the other lizardmen followed their general and charged towards the human fortress. The hastily constructed fortress, encountering the aggressive lizardmen, immediately turned its guns and opened fire. Gatling guns in the bunkers unleashed a furious barrage of fire, emptying the tens of thousands of rounds stored within within minutes. The human troops on the fortress walls also picked up rifles similar to the AK-47 and began firing short bursts at the charging lizardmen. (Because AK-series rifles become relatively inexpensive once the technical hurdles are overcome and mass production begins, and given that most enemies are still using melee weapons, the regular armies of human nations generally only equip themselves with these cheap and reliable firearms for cost-effectiveness reasons; only the elite troops in the capital use more advanced weaponry.)
But humanity soon discovered a cruel truth: their once invincible firearms could no longer even wound the enemies before them. The Gatling guns in the fortress fired specially made 20mm bullets that couldn't even injure the lizardmen, at most slowing them down. However, if you looked closely, you would see that the armor worn by the lizardmen would suddenly emit a strange light, neutralizing the kinetic energy of the bullets. The terrifying defensive capabilities of the rune armor began to take effect at this moment.
This was just a minor function of the armor after it was enchanted with runes. While the humans were momentarily stunned, Glock immediately activated his battle aura and flew hundreds of meters to the city wall, smashing a human soldier in front of him into a bloody pulp with his hammer.
Seeing this, the other lizardman warriors took off and followed Glock. After Agreed popularized the technique, the monsters quickly mastered it thanks to their extremely high physical talent. In fact, even the lowest-ranking recruits in Agreed's army now have knight-level battle aura cultivation. Or rather, only those who have reached this level of cultivation are qualified to leave the training camp and become recognized warriors.
The warriors sent by Agred this time were all at least at the Grandmaster level in terms of fighting spirit, capable of flying. In other words, the humans were facing super warriors who were physically strong enough to crush mammoths and beat up young dragons.
Meanwhile, this force wasn't just composed of lizardman warriors. At that moment, fireballs shot out from behind, hurtling into the underground fortresses equipped with machine guns with incredibly lifelike trajectories, blasting them to smithereens. The accompanying mages were announcing their arrival to the enemy with great fanfare. These mages were at least capable of casting eighth-order magic, and under their bombardment, human defenses were easily destroyed as if it were a joke.
What humanity initially perceived as a massacre was instantly reversed; however, although the targets of the massacre changed, the outcome was not significantly different.
Fifteen minutes later, the Undying City fell. Eighty-seven thousand four hundred and thirteen human soldiers were wiped out and became the lizardmen's dinner. The lizardmen, the residents of the city, were left untouched, because Agred's military merit system clearly stated that it was forbidden to lay a hand on the weak who did not even have weapons. Anyone who did such a thing would not only have their military merits deducted but would also be punished with caning.
Moreover, in Agred's subtle moral education, bullying the weak is considered cowardly. Anyone who bullies the weak will be discriminated against and subjected to passive-aggressive behavior by their peers. Therefore, the monsters under Agred's command have no interest in killing the weak. They prefer to challenge soldiers and officers who are stronger than them in their spare time.
Moreover, having finally encountered a war, military merits were an important currency for soldiers to exchange for cultivation resources. Having finally participated in a battle, no one wanted to lose even a little military merit for killing a few civilians. Therefore, under these circumstances, the lizardman warriors were exceptionally disciplined and did not harm the human civilians in the slightest.
That evening, Glock was drinking soup by the campfire when a stone hit his hand, knocking his food to the ground. Glock instantly looked into the distance in anger and his eyes locked onto a little boy who had ruined his dinner with the stone.
But Glock, seeing that he was just a human cub, and remembering his master's teachings, had no choice but to lie down on the ground, pick up the meat, pat it a couple of times, and stuff it into his mouth and swallow it whole.
Unfortunately, the child was ungrateful. He ran over and, holding a human-sized bayonet he'd picked up from somewhere, stabbed Glock. Seeing this, Glock could only knock the bayonet out of his hand and pick the child up. The brat still shouted, "Let me go! You bastards, I want revenge for my dad!"
Glock gently placed the child on the ground and said, "I'm sorry, child, I killed quite a few people today. Although I don't know which one is your father, this is war. The death of the weak brings victory to the strong, that's all. Since your father was a soldier, he probably killed no fewer people than I did. After all, the unification of the North by humanity didn't rely on love and justice."
The boy, still oblivious, picked up the bayonet and shouted, "I don't care, you monsters, you're the ones who killed him!" With that, he continued to stab Glock with the bayonet.
At this moment, a lizardman warrior couldn't stand it anymore. He grabbed the child from behind, snatched the bayonet from his hand, threw it aside, and shouted, "Don't push your luck! Get out of here! You should thank our lord for his non-killing policy, otherwise you brat would be in the soup pot with your father long ago."
Just then, a woman rushed out in a panic. She hugged the child, apologized to the lizard people, and desperately, even hysterically, pulled her child back.
But the boy was stubborn and didn't understand everyone's cowardice in the face of the enemy. Glock looked at the boy and seemed to see himself in him, the one who had been driven away by the green dragon in the oasis forest.
Glock then called out, “Kid, I know you’re not happy about this. Let’s have a duel. When you’re grown up and think you can defeat me, come find me in the Oasis Forest. I’ll be waiting for you to seek revenge.”
“Fine! You just wait!” the child shouted, pointing at Glock with wide eyes.
The boy then returned with his mother to the human shelter. Glock went back to the campfire, wanting another bowl of soup, but the roar of airplanes suddenly came from afar. Glock looked up and shouted, "Air raid! Mages, prepare!!"
The lizardmen mages behind quickly responded, casting wind magic to create turbulence in the sky above. This instantly caused the more than twenty bombers flying in to lose their direction and balance, teetering on the brink of collapse. But unexpectedly, the bomber group simply dropped all their bombs, and in an instant, terrifying flames engulfed the entire city!
